While Trevor Dunlap and Jon Rapose combined on a four-hit shutout in the opener, a balk and a simple grounder to second made the difference in the second game of the Hawks’ 6-0, 11-9 sweep of the visiting Timberwolves in an NWAACC East doubleheader.
CBC jumped out to a seven-run lead in the first inning of the second game, thanks in part to an RBI double from Jeremy Holden and a two-run single by Larry Price Lomas.
But Blue Mountain chipped away, and pulled even in the top of the eighth on former Southridge catcher Gunner Morby’s two-run single.
CBC loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame on a pair of singles and an error, before a balk put the Hawks back up by run. Chris Brunetti then grounded out to second, scoring the insurance run from third.
In the opener, Dunlap gave up just three hits over six innings, striking out seven and walking two. Rapose came on in the seventh, allowing one hit and striking out two for the save.
